Shelfed

Summary

Shelfed is a personal media journal for movies, series, books and games. The core of the app runs on your device and needs no account. Creating an optional account unlocks social features (following friends, sharing your shelves and posting Stories); only then is some data stored on our backend. We do not show ads, and we never sell your data.

Data stored on your device

Everything in your personal journal — the titles you mark as watched, skipped, favourite or on your wishlist, the moods you create, the optional first name you can enter, your filter preferences and your notification settings — is stored locally on your device in an on-device SQLite database. Without an account, this data never leaves your phone unless you choose to share it (see Sharing below).

Optional account & social features

If you create an account, we use Supabase (our hosted backend provider) to store the data needed for the social features. This is entirely optional and the app is fully usable without it. When you sign up or use social features we store:

Your email address — used only to sign you in with a one-time code. Shelfed does not use passwords.
Your profile — a username, an optional display name and an optional profile photo you choose from your device.
A copy of your shareable shelves (watched, wishlist and favourites) so they sync across your devices and can be seen by followers you approve. Skipped titles are never uploaded.
Your follow list and follow requests. Accounts are private by default, so another person can only see your shelves after you accept their follow request.
Stories you post (a title, poster and optional caption). The app shows Stories only for about 24 hours.
Film "matches" — titles you and someone you follow both like.

Supabase processes this data on our behalf; see supabase.com/privacy. You can delete your account and all of this data at any time from inside the app (see Your data, your control below).

Notifications

Shelfed can optionally remind you when a new season of a show on your wishlist or favourites is coming. These reminders are scheduled locally on your device; we do not operate a push-notification server and no notification data leaves your phone. You can turn them off any time in Settings or in your system settings.

Third-party content providers

Shelfed displays metadata, posters and covers from several public catalogues. When you open, scroll or search the app, requests are made directly from your device to these services:

The Movie Database (TMDB) — for film and series information. TMDB may log these requests in line with its own privacy policy: themoviedb.org/privacy-policy.
This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
Open Library (Internet Archive) and Google Books — for book information. archive.org/about/terms.php, policies.google.com/privacy.
RAWG — for video-game information. rawg.io/privacy_policy.
Giphy — only if you add an animated GIF sticker to a Story; your search terms are sent to Giphy to return results. GIPHY privacy policy.

Shelfed does not send any account identifier, advertising id or personal data to these services. The only information they receive is the standard technical data any web request contains (such as your IP address and device user-agent).

Sharing

Shelfed's "Share" button opens your operating system's native share sheet with a short text and a public link to the title. If you have entered a first name, it is included so the recipient knows who is recommending the title. Nothing is shared unless you press Share and confirm in the chosen app.

With an account, you can also share inside Shelfed: posting a Story or making a shelf visible shares that content with the followers you have approved. You choose what to post, and you can delete it or remove followers at any time.

Analytics, advertising, tracking

Shelfed contains no analytics SDKs, no advertising, no tracking and no crash-reporting that includes personal data.

Children

Shelfed is intended for general audiences and is not directed at children. The social features require an account and are meant for teens and adults in line with the app stores' minimum age requirements. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Permissions

Shelfed requests only the permissions it needs:

Internet — to fetch titles and, if you have an account, to sync your social data.
Photos — only when you choose a profile photo; Shelfed opens the picker so you can select one image.
Notifications — optional, for the local new-season reminders described above.

Shelfed does not access your contacts, location or microphone, and does not use your camera beyond the photo you deliberately pick.

Your data, your control

Uninstalling Shelfed removes all data stored on your device.
Clearing the app's storage in your device settings resets your local shelf without removing the app.
If you created an account, you can delete it and all associated backend data at any time from Settings inside the app; this permanently removes your profile, synced shelves, follows and posts.
You can also remove individual followers, delete Stories, or unfollow others whenever you like.

Changes to this policy

If we ever change this policy, the new version will be published at this URL and the effective date above will be updated. Substantive changes will also be mentioned in the app's About screen.
